If you're looking for buggy tours in Monção, you've come to the right place, literally. Bontour Monção is based in Souto Fiscal, in the parish of São João de Longos Vales, right at the foot of the Serra da Anta, and this is where all our tours set off from. In this guide we've gathered everything you need to know before booking: the three tours available, durations, difficulty levels, prices, what's included, what to bring and how to secure your spot. Written by the people who drive these trails every week.
Why Monção is perfect for buggy tours
Monção is known as the capital of Alvarinho, but anyone who sees it from above realises there's another treasure here: the mountains. The town sits beside the River Minho, facing Salvaterra de Miño in Spain, and right behind it rises the Serra da Anta, crisscrossed by dirt tracks, forest paths and natural viewpoints overlooking the União de Freguesias de Anhões e Luzio and the entire Minho valley.
It's this rare combination, river, vineyards, mountains and border, that makes the Alto Minho one of the best settings in Portugal for off-road driving. And best of all: you don't need any previous experience. Our tours are guided, designed for all levels, and the initial briefing puts any beginner at ease within minutes. Monção is about an hour and a half from Porto and half an hour from Vigo, making it the perfect plan for a different kind of day out or the highlight of a weekend in the Alto Minho.
The three Bontour Monção buggy tours
We have three experiences to choose from, always with 2 or 4-seater buggies and a guide accompanying the route. The price is per buggy, not per person, so the more you share, the cheaper it works out for each of you.
60-Minute Tour, the essentials
Duration: 60 minutes · Difficulty: easy · Price: €70 (2-seater buggy) / €100 (4-seater buggy)
The ideal starting point for anyone who has never driven a buggy or is short on time. The route leaves our base in Souto Fiscal and climbs along accessible trails to the Marco do Bustavade, a natural viewpoint where we stop for photos and to take in the scenery: the Minho valley below, the Alvarinho vineyards and, in the distance, Galicia. It's a relaxed drive with just the right dose of adrenaline, perfect for families and for a first experience.
120-Minute Tour, the full adventure
Duration: 120 minutes · Difficulty: medium · Price: €130 (2-seater buggy) / €190 (4-seater buggy)
For those who want more trail, more mountain and more views. The two-hour tour climbs higher into the Serra da Anta, along more demanding paths, and rewards the effort with sweeping panoramas over the União de Freguesias de Anhões e Luzio and the whole Minho valley, on a clear day, seemingly forever. It's our most complete tour: there's time to build confidence behind the wheel, feel the buggy working on the more technical sections and stop at the mountain's most photogenic spots. If you love driving, this is the one.
Sunset Experience, the magic of golden hour
Duration: 2 hours · Difficulty: easy · Price: €140 (2-seater buggy) / €200 (4-seater buggy)
Our most romantic and most photographed tour. The Sunset Experience takes you into the mountains at golden hour, when the light falls over the Minho valley and the sun sets behind the mountains of Galicia. The difficulty is easy, the focus here is the landscape and the moment, not speed. The start time varies with the season, adjusted to the exact time of sunset, and is confirmed at the time of booking. It's the right choice for couples, marriage proposals or simply for anyone who wants to see Monção at its most beautiful.
What's included
All Bontour Monção tours include everything you need for a relaxed, safe experience:
- 2 or 4-seater buggy, according to your choice when booking;
- Experienced guide accompanying the group throughout the route;
- Initial driving and safety briefing before setting off;
- The necessary protective equipment, provided by us;
- Stops at the points of interest and viewpoints along the route, with time for photos.
What to bring and wear
The golden rule is simple: come comfortable and don't be afraid of getting dirty. Mountain trails are dusty in summer and muddy in winter, and that's part of the fun. Our recommendations:
- Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty;
- Closed footwear: leave sandals and flip-flops at home;
- A jacket in winter or on cooler days (temperatures drop in the mountains);
- Sunscreen in summer, as the tour is outdoors;
- A phone or camera kept safe for the stops, you'll want to capture the views.
Safety first
Adrenaline is only enjoyable when it comes with safety, and that's a commitment we take seriously. All tours are accompanied by experienced professional guides who know every metre of the trails and adapt the pace to the group. Before setting off, every participant receives a driving and safety briefing, and protective equipment is provided by Bontour Monção. The routes have been designed for all experience levels, from the absolute beginner to the seasoned driver.
If you have any questions about the requirements for driving or riding as a passenger, for example with minors in the group, talk to us before booking: we'll confirm everything by WhatsApp or email, with no obligation. Minors can only take part when accompanied by a responsible adult.
Who this experience is for
The short answer: almost everyone. With 2 and 4-seater buggies and three tour levels, we've welcomed a bit of everything:
- Families: the 4-seater buggy takes parents and children together on the same adventure;
- Couples: the Sunset Experience is made with moments for two in mind;
- Groups of friends: several buggies in convoy, each with its own crew;
- Stag and hen parties: a different kind of plan before the glass of Alvarinho;
- Team building: companies looking to get the team out of the meeting room.
For groups, parties and corporate events we put together tailor-made programmes and quotes, just get in touch. And if you'd like to give the experience to someone, our gift vouchers are a present no one forgets (there are editions for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and special occasions).
How to book your tour
Booking is simple, and we recommend doing it in advance, especially at weekends and in summer, when demand is highest. We're open every day, from 9am to 7pm, and we operate all year round by reservation. There are three ways to secure your spot:
- Through the booking form on our website;
- By email to info@bontourmoncao.pt;
- By WhatsApp or phone on +351 961 050 902.
If the weather doesn't cooperate and conditions make the route unsafe, we'll reschedule the tour at no cost. Our base is at Estrada S. João de Longos Vales, n.º 4106, Souto Fiscal, 4950-255 Monção, about 1h15 from Porto and 45 minutes from Vigo, and very close to Melgaço, Valença and Arcos de Valdevez. Right next door is the Romanesque church of the Mosteiro de Longos Vales, which is well worth a look before or after the tour.
